Construction Foreman/Operator

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Responsible for all construction projects, including improvement of telephone facilities.
  • Supervises construction crew that includes line and ground workers, heavy equipment operators and mechanics.
  • Supervises construction progress, ensures quality standards and completion dates.
  • Trains and directs aerial and buried cable construction crews.
  • Pre-surveys job sites to determine needs for workers, equipment, materials, parts and safety provisions.
  • Schedules personnel for projects and makes site inspections to check public safety precautions and use of prescribed safety equipment and procedures.
  • Responds to outside plant emergency calls.
  • May oversee contractors installing underground conduit and cable.
  • Travel throughout ILEC/CLEC area and some overnight travel may be required.
  • Provides General Manager (GM) with accurate and timely status reports, ensuring GM is fully aware of all issues.
  • Responsible for all maintenance activities on equipment

  • 5+ years of experience in telecommunications, wireless infrastructure and telecom construction.
  • 5+ years of supervisory or management experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years operating/locating experience running a directional drill/backhoe.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps.
  • Ability to motivate employees, set priorities and complete tasks on time.
  • Possess excellent computer skills.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in both Standard and High Risk area (i.e., live utilities) and knowledge of utility depth and placement.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and complete bore logs, understand locates, and be a problem solver.


  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving history.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain construction classifications of ES7 and GF9 within sixty (60) days.
  • Background check and clean drug testing is required.
